Russian Samye Ling

The Buddhist community of Mindroling in Kalmykia is currently undertaking a project to build the first Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma tradition in Russia.

This Monastery will provide many people with the opportunity to learn and study Tibetan Buddhism and Buddhist philosophy. It will be a place to invite teachers, and to educate a new generation of young monks, born and raised there. Overall, this Monastery will create the environment for Dharma to flourish in Kalmykia - the only Region in Europe currently designated as Buddhist.

The realization of this project is already underway. Construction has started this September 2007, is continuing right now, and completion is planned for the Summer of 2008.
